I did an experiment on quilled 3-D cake.
The other side of the cake.
But closer look and you'll notice the surface of my tight coils is not smooth and even (as shown below). It could be done more neatly. I should have used just paper instead of light weight cardstock (because I like the surface pattern of the card). I'll give it another try sometime again to improve on.

    beautiful cake! I love the textured look of the cardstock for the cake frosting! To get a more even top it sometimes works to press a flat surface onto the top of the tight coil and press it around a bit.
